Hung loose in the motel here in Holbrook so we don't arrive too early in Flagstaff and can't check in. Some places don't care, if they have a room available they let you in, others go by the letter of their law, if check in is 4 it is 4. That's what happened in Medford, OR last year. There wasn't a soul at the motel but we had to amuse ourselves for about 4 hours until 4. The lady at the counter wasn't even all that happy about letting us change out of our riding gear so we could walk about.Anyway, the ride was, like, totally uneventful dude. I mean desert is desert. We'd hoped to see something extraterrestrial near the meteor crater at Winslow but no go. We did see a contrail of what looked like a missile shot but couldn't be sure. Check out attached photo.
We got to our motel in Flagstaff around 11, they had a room let us in and life was good. We changed, headed for lunch, came back to the room to get the camera and make reservations for the train to the Grand Canyon tomorrow. We walk out the door to head into town and there is a thunderstorm happening. Well, it never ends for that day. Looking at the weather map on weather.com, showed this darn thing growing in place over Flagstaff, I mean weird, like, extraterrestrial weird. We wandered into town between showers but forgot the camera so no pics of Flagstaff. It is a neat small town with a historical area of about 8 blocks mostly filled with bars. Turns out it is home to Northern Arizona University with a student population around 20,000. I get it.
What was notable was the traffic. I don't know what the deal was but the traffic on the main street was horrendous. Connie says it is no different from Annapolis but how would I know since I don't drive anywhere around there.
